Joshua J. Freitas joins the CERTUS team with a wealth of experience and stellar industry credentials.
CERTUS Senior Management, a wholly owned subsidiary of CERTUS Senior Living, continues to build momentum with senior management choosing new additions for key positions focused on organizing an exceptional core team.
Case in point, the addition of Joshua J. Freitas. Nationally known author and speaker, Freitas joins the assisted living and memory care company as V.P. of Program Development. He’ll create, brand and implement all policies and best practices related to memory care engagement programs as well as all training programs for associates.
Because of his extensive background and experience, Freitas will manage ongoing collaboration and research-based initiatives with industry professionals, educational institutions and clinical research centers for CERTUS.
A Certified Alzheimer’s Educator (CAEd) and Certified Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia Care Trainer (CADDCT), Freitas is the author of three books; “The Dementia Concept” edition one and newly published edition two, are caregivers guides to improving daily life for Alzheimer’s disease and related forms of dementia. “Joining Grandma’s Journey,” is to help adult caregivers explain and guide a grandchild through meaningful engagement with their grandparents living with the disease.
Freitas, recognized nationally for his expertise in dementia and memory care, has presented at many national conferences and forums, and has been interviewed by a multitude of publications. Current activities include a new article to be published by nationally recognized Imagination Magazine in which Freitas will explain how an environment utilizing purposeful color, music and lighting can reduce instances of sun downing and negative expression.
Long-Term Living Magazine, another national publication, plans an article regarding Freitas’ directives toward CERTUS’ delivery philosophy and purposeful design elements being incorporated into the facilities. Also on tap is the National Alzheimer’s Foundation of America conference in Orlando, FL at which Freitas will speak on the benefits of purposeful living environments for those living with Alzheimer’s and related forms of dementia.
Freitas previously served as Corporate Director of Memory Care and Resident Engagement at LCB Senior Living, in Norwood, Massachusetts. He was responsible for managing all aspects of resident engagement services and programs throughout a 21-community portfolio.
He’s the developer of the ‘Dementia by Design Evaluation Tool’ (DDET). DDET is quickly becoming the gold standard in the industry for the evaluation of current communities. It also helps forecast a strategic plan for integrating newly acquired facilities into a health care provider’s portfolio.
“Joshua is a real asset for CERTUS,” said Glen Pawlowski, CERTUS CEO. “We realize what an incredible contribution he will make in our organization. His credentials as well as reputation will only enhance our growth in creating exceptional dementia and memory care communities in Florida. He will also provide community outreach and sales support for the organization through educational seminars for the public, families affected by Alzheimer’s and the professional community. We are very happy he is joining our team.”
Development is currently underway at various CERTUS Senior Living sites throughout Central Florida including Orange City in Volusia County (scheduled opening November 2017), Mt. Dora in Lake County (opening in January 2018), and Waterford Lakes in Orange County (scheduled opening February 2018.
