Glen Pawlowski, Founder/CEO
Mr. Pawlowski received a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Administration from Iowa State University in 1979. Mr. Pawlowski has held sales, marketing, operation management and project development positions primarily in retirement housing and telecommunications industries for over 30 years. Prior to founding CERTUS, Mr. Pawlowski was Regional Director of Operations for Merrill Gardens, a national retirement housing company. He was responsible for management of their retirement communities in the southeast United States. He has been responsible for all aspects of senior housing, including market analysis, site acquisition, project planning and development, marketing, and operations management. Leaving Merrill Gardens, Mr. Pawlowski founded CERTUS Development and CERTUS Management in 1999 and ran it as President and CEO. He is directly experienced with over 3,500 units in 16 communities.
John Ottinger, CFO
Mr. Ottinger has over 30 years’ experience managing both for-profit and not-for-profit private equity funds. Mr. Ottinger served as the COO and CFO coordinating both financial and investment policies, and closing transactions to fund various not-for-profit and for-profit real estate projects including churches, schools and retirement communities totaling over $750MM in financing. Over the past 12 years nearly $400MM of financing has been provided specifically for senior housing, namely for CERTUS. In addition, Mr. Ottinger developed a private equity fund under the name Wellstone Retirement Communities, LLC that acquired and operated ten senior housing assets of over 1500 units in Texas, Oklahoma and Florida. Those assets were later sold for $175 million to a private owner operator. Mr. Ottinger graduated from the University of Delaware magna cum laude and with distinction in 1976 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Westminster Theological Seminary in 1979 with a Masters in Divinity.
Troy M. Cox, CIO
Mr. Cox brings over 25 years of experience in real estate strategic planning, investment, development and asset management. As a real estate entrepreneur, he has a track record of success built on identifying opportunities, assessing risk, structuring transactions with investment partners, and optimizing returns. His significant experience in all areas of real estate operation, financing and investment, as well as his extensive relationships with real estate industry entrepreneurs, investors, owners and financiers are beneficial in implementing the CERTUS development and investment strategies. Throughout his career, Mr. Cox has been instrumental in the accumulation and monetization of three commercial real estate portfolios totaling over $3 billion in transactions: Associated Capital Properties (1997 to Highwoods Properties), the DASCO Companies (2004 to CNL Retirement), and most recently, Eola Capital (2011 to Parkway Properties). Mr. Cox graduated from Wofford College with a Bachelor’s of Art in Finance. He is a licensed real estate broker in Florida and Georgia.
Richard “Dick” Corbett, Chairman
Mr. Corbett as a lifelong entrepreneur brings more than 30 years of experience in successful real estate ownership and property development to the CERTUS Senior Living team. Having begun his career as a real estate investor/developer in New York City, Dick later relocated to Tampa, Florida, where he continued to build an impressive real estate investment portfolio. Throughout his career, Dick has acquired a variety of notable, Florida-based real estate assets. He has developed over 3 million square feet of mixed-use retail, office and hotel projects – most recently, his development and sale of International Plaza Mall, adjacent to Tampa International Airport. Dick is a native of Rochester, New York. He holds an undergraduate degree from University of Notre Dame and an MBA from Harvard Business School and until recently served many years on the Florida Fish and Game Commission.
